What does Peregrina mean, anyway?

My name is Wanda.

When I was born, my mother honored herself and my grandmother - but with a twist, Wanda with a W instead of a V, and Kassia with a K instead of a C. I was born in Brasil, speaking Portuguese, and in my mother tongue, my name means Peregrina. Peregrina means wanderer, and I’ve always felt like there’s something freeing about that. It speaks of curiosity, living unbound by walls and borders. I don’t just travel from place to place; I embrace the unknown, lean into detours, and resignify every step. My name is a daily reminder that life comes from movement, from the courage to stray from the map, and the adventure of discovering stories that live in every corner.

Being a Peregrina always meant I carry the world and the stories of countless paths within me. I proudly did so, and I held them quietly and silently until the urge to share became unstoppable. And that’s when Photography got in the picture, and that’s why this project is called Peregrina. My camera became my best friend, translating wanderings and stories into images, capturing fleeting lights into forever memories to be revisited. Every image is a love letter to the world, to humanity, and to the wandering spirit my name carries. Through my lens and point of view, I invite people to celebrate the raw beauty of who we are.
